5 good reasons to study in Canada

Image
At one of the conferences I attended in London in 2016, I had a conversation with a Canadian school representative and I found myself asking him why Canada was a great destination for students. Of course, he came to ‘sell’ his school, so I wasn’t expecting anything short of that. He mentioned specifically something I couldn’t forget in a hurry. He said, “Canada can be called the ‘Employee Market’. It favors undergraduate and post graduate students because they can have 4 to 5 job offers post-graduation. Little wonder 90% of Canadian graduates are employed less than six months after graduation. He further added “The baby boomers are a large population in Canada (as with many developed nations) with government needing to pay pensions, use tax money for state projects etc. A time was, when Canada was not a destination to be considered but the case is different now” …And we went on and on with this discuss.   [By the way, Wikipedia has Baby boomers as people born during the ...

5 Super Study Skills for Super-achieving Students

It's been a while! Welcome back to my blog...While I hope to drop my top 5 reasons to study in Canada which I’m sure a lot of people are waiting for, I thought again to digress with some study tips I engaged while doing my adult education - doing the MBA I mean. If you have been following my past blogs, you’d have known that I came to the UK for an MBA programme with my 2 kids and husband. My husband went back to Nigeria to work after settling us for 2 weeks so I was left with the kids. The first Monday which was called orientation week started on a ‘high’ with activities starting from 9am to 5pm everyday. I was initially like ‘What is this oh, who sent me this message of adult education’- it was ‘TOOOO’ hectic. I actually thought it would end after the 1st week but I discovered that this was going to be the routine being a full-time MBA programme. A class mate of mine quit after week one and went back to Canada. She said she couldn’t cope (sad though 😐) ...

5 awesome ways to start the year right...

Image
Hello again and compliments of this great season to you! As the year finally comes to an end, I thought to digress a bit by sharing some great tips to start the year aright. Of course there are various things to do or ways to start the year, but these tips comes to mind for me and I thought to share... Forgive all hurts and if it’s in your ability to do so, forget it and move on . I often joke that ‘love has no recycle bin’. With a computer you delete an item and it stores away in the recycle bin to be retrieved if needed again. My Holy book teaches that ‘Love does not take ‘account’ of the evil done to it, it does not pay attention to a suffered wrong’ - Declutter your life from hurts and pains and move on . Avoid keeping unnecessary ‘accounts’ or a 'recycle bin'. If you also made some mistakes during the year, don’t beat yourself too hard. Forgive yourself and turn to the next page of that book...The story is only getting juicier...😉 ‘Declutter’ in the ...

5 great reasons to study in the UK

Different study destinations have their unique advantages in terms of costs, scholarship opportunities, distance and what have you. Today I would be highlighting some great reasons why UK is a great study destination to consider. The United Kingdom (UK) is made up of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. Each country has distinct regions with large cosmopolitan cities, towns, and countryside villages.  My top 5 great reasons to study in the UK would be: 1. Closer to home : UK happens to be approximately 6 hours away from Nigeria and for many who do not enjoy long distance travels like me, it is the best place to study. It is also a natural transition for many pre-university students since most secondary schools in Nigeria run the British curriculum by taking the IGCSE in year 11/12. 2.  Home of English : I often say in a funny way that ‘England owns English’. If you are interested in improving your written and oral communication, then ...

So we studied abroad + Financial requirements

Image
Hello all and thanks for staying tuned... Still on my study abroad story which I would be wrapping up so I don't bore you to sleep...'WE' eventually studied abroad... I’m sure you’d be wondering why I am saying ‘We’...(lol) Well, myself and 2 children eventually came to study abroad including my husband despite Chevening’s final verdict. I felt I had gone too far with my preparations to turn back. I probably leveraged on the words of Beverly Sills who said, “You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don’t try” . So, I decided to go ahead with the plan in faith that I would not be stranded and to God’s glory I have not been - GLORY! Back to my story, children can travel and stay with their parents as dependants - most of the time if it is the Mother that is studying. The rule also stipulates that the husband must be there and is eligible to work for 40 hours (staying back can be worked around). Education for the children is free so ...

Waiting & the different IELTS exams...

Image
Welcome back to my blog and thanks for reading so far... This is the continuation of my Study abroad story...(hoping it is not boring)...If it, please bear with me as I'm getting somewhere 😁 Anyways, while waiting (meaning placed on the Chevening reserve list),  I decided to continue with other travel requirements such as taking the Tuberculosis test (with approved centers only in Lagos and Abuja) and the English language test (IELTS for UKVI). I’d like to stress that there are different IELTS exams all comprising of 4 components namely - Writing, Speaking, Listening and Reading. The difference lies in the content of the exam where the reading materials in the reading exam for IELTS academic are most likely topics gotten from textbooks, journals, research work etc. The reading materials for IELTS General are mostly from everyday reading materials.  The different types are as follows: IELTS General (could be used for immigration purposes and useful for ...
