Waiting & the different IELTS exams...

Welcome back to my blog and thanks for reading so far...

This is the continuation of my Study abroad story...(hoping it is not boring)...If it, please bear with me as I'm getting somewhere šŸ˜

Anyways, while waiting (meaning placed on the Chevening reserve list),  I decided to continue with other travel requirements such as taking the Tuberculosis test (with approved centers only in Lagos and Abuja) and the English language test (IELTS for UKVI). Iā€™d like to stress that there are different IELTS exams all comprising of 4 components namely - Writing, Speaking, Listening and Reading. The difference lies in the content of the exam where the reading materials in the reading exam for IELTS academic are most likely topics gotten from textbooks, journals, research work etc. The reading materials for IELTS General are mostly from everyday reading materials.  The different types are as follows:

  • IELTS General (could be used for immigration purposes and useful for those making plans to migrate to Canada, Australia or New Zealand)

  • IELTS Academic (could be used for academic purposes for schools in the US, Canada, Australia and other study destinations that might require it)

  • IELTS Academic for UKVI (this is strictly for the UK. Some claim it could be used for the other destinations as well, but you might need to double check with the schools)

Also, students applying for a masterā€™s program in the UK and have been taught in English might not require an English exam. A C5/C6 in WAEC would suffice. Again, you might need to double check with the University. For registration of any of the IELTS exams and for more information, please email info@i-excelconsultingng.com.

And so, I wasnā€™t really ā€˜waitingā€™ during my ā€˜waiting periodā€™, I was moving ahead doing other things including processing my childrenā€™s transcript from their school and searching out other scholarship options at the British Council fair. When the long-awaited news came, it was this....

But I decided to move on and I did...

To be continued...

PROMOTIONSā€¦

There is an exciting opportunity for African secondary school students (ages 14-18) to participate in the Yale Young African Scholars Program for the next edition in 2019.

Students from ALL African countries are eligible and encouraged to apply but they are particularly keen on receiving applications from students who live in rural areas, and/or do not have university guidance in their schools or communities. While students from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, the admissions committee will give preference to high-achieving, low-income (ā€œHALIā€) students.

Application deadline is 06 February 2019. For more information, please visit https://africanscholars.yale.edu and circulate it among your respective networks
